1. HOW TO OPEN THE TOOL

This tool works offline and does not require installation.

1. Locate the file: family-tree-maker-vX.html
2. Double-click the file
3. It will open automatically in your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, etc.)

Works on both Windows and Mac.

2. HOW TO USE THE TOOL

---

The screen is divided into two sections:

LEFT SIDE:
You enter names and years

RIGHT SIDE:
Live preview of your family tree

Steps:

1. Start typing names into the fields on the left
2. Add years (optional) under each name
3. The tree updates instantly on the right side
4. Scroll the preview area if needed (horizontal and vertical)

Notes:

* You can leave fields empty
* Layout adjusts automatically
* No manual positioning needed

3. BUTTONS EXPLAINED

Load Example Data
Loads a sample family tree so you can see how it works

Copy BackUp URL
Creates a unique link containing your data
IMPORTANT: Save this link somewhere safe if you want to keep your work

Export JPEG
Saves your family tree as a high-quality image (JPG format)
File name: family-tree.jpg

Clear All Data
Removes everything and resets the tool

4. SAVING YOUR WORK

---

This tool does NOT save automatically.

To avoid losing your work:

Option 1 (Recommended)

* Click "Copy BackUp URL"
* Paste the link into a document or email
* Open that link later to restore your tree

Option 2

* Export your tree as JPEG. Not recommended because you can no longer edit contents

5. EXPORTING YOUR FAMILY TREE

1. Click "Export JPEG"
2. The image will download automatically
3. File is high resolution 6600px x 5100px and ready for printing. Maximum recommended printing size is 22 x 17 inches.

Notes:

* Designed for print (landscape layout)
* White background included
* Fonts are embedded for consistent output

6. PRINTING

---

Recommended settings:

* Orientation: Landscape
* Paper size: Letter or A4
* Scale: Fit to page or 100%

You can print at home or use a print shop.

7. COMPATIBILITY NOTES

---

* Works on Windows and Mac
* Works in modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari)
* No internet connection required after opening file

If something looks incorrect:

* Try a different browser
* Make sure you are using the original file

---

8. TROUBLESHOOTING

---

Nothing happens when opening file:

* Right-click → Open with → choose a browser

Export not working:

* Refresh the page and try again

Lost your data:

* Use your saved backup URL (if available)
